When the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) launched its ‘Name Our Ship’ campaign, they had no idea of the responses they’d get from the public.
One suggestion, ‘RRS Boaty McBoatface’, sent the competition viral, with a whopping 124,109 votes. It wasn’t quite the ‘inspirational’ name they’d imagined for their £2 million polar research ship. However, it did capture the hearts and minds of the nation.
But who was responsible for this seemingly silly suggestion? First reports suggested it was the work of a BBC Radio Jersey presenter. But new footage reveals a green and clawed paw typing in those very words, ahead of the announcement. It was Chewie, all along.
